Australia - 2012

October - Malaysia

Arrival at Kuala Lumpur Airport on Oct. 1st, 2012 at 6:30am and 27°C ambient temperature!

My first two days I spent on Hans place, my first couchsurfing host. He showed a further couchsurfer Madlen and me a lot of the city.

Chinatown and infront of the City Gallery:

.....

KL Twin Towers KLCC and afterwards a beer! (on the left hand site my Host Han and on the right Madlen)

....

On Wednesday Oct. the 4th I switched to my second host ... another Han :) In my bedroom I had a garden fence with artificial flowers. Furthermore Han has a all-year-christmas-tree with original artificial snow. Everything was initially strange but later very funny. Han is a singer and plays piano very well. He saves all his money for world trips and I think he is doing this a lot!

My bedroom with the fence a picture from the Batu Caves:

.....

Dinner with Han at a Restaurant and as breakfast Roti Telur Bawang (egg-onion-omelette) and Teh Tarik (tea with milk):

....

And another picture of the KL skyline from Taman Tasik Titiwangsa:

Over the weekend I was with some couchsurfers in Melaka. It's a beautiful little town, 2 hours below KL. I really can recommend you to visit this place:) The bus drive costs me about 3€ and the hostel about 3,50€ per night.

An Overview about the town, you get with the Menara Taming Sari, a viewing platform which brings you 80 metre up of the ground (but we didn't take that touristic things). On the right picture you can see the Christ Church in Melaka (incl. me ^^):

....

The famous Chicken Rice Balls of Melaka (i know, doesn't look very famous...) and me in Chinatown of Melaka:

....

On the way back to KL we stopped at some sunny, beautiful beaches.

October - Western Australia

Arrival in Perth at Oct. the 8th 5pm and... much less °C as in Malaysia!

The first two weeks I spent in this hostel:

...not bad for organizing but clearly too many Germans.

Beside the initially organizing and job search things I saw some nice places in Perth. The Kings Park is on a slightly higher level and it seems, a lot of Perth´s active people like stairs training. At the top, one receives a great view of the Perth City:

..

Direct south-east of the Perth' City on Heirisson Island you can see kangaroos :)

....

Of course there are plenty of opportunities for juggling and Lindy Hop in Perth. The most popular meet up for any kind of spinning and fire is on Tuesday nights at hyde park... anyway, for my opinion the Nürnberg meetings are still better :)

To learn Lindy Hop you can decide in Perth between 5 different schools. The weekly social dancing is on fridays in Mustangs/Northbridge and Sundays in the Belgium Beer Café. Following you can see some hopper of the best school :)

..

Self evident I was at the beach! Seems to be a sunny day but was still a bit to windy. And obviously swimming was not allowed. But you can see how the people here interprete this sign :)

....

Somewhere in the nowhere: On October, 22 I started my first job as tree trimmer between York and Northam. What a beautiful, quiet wilderness ... the pictures speak for themselves.

....

After that job I went back to Perth ... but I didn't want to stay longer in a hostel ... that´s why i moved into Sunny´s house. He's indian and lives together with his two siblings. Because their house is not ready build up and he needed helping hands I could stay there for free.

....

And during my stay at Sunny's, I bought a few things ...

car, pushbike, equipment... now I'm independent

....

Movember

I'm just kidding. I was wearing the mustache just for a day :)

(who thinks I can't spell November)

Show my travels on a larger map.

Early November I switched once more my host and attended for a week Chrissie. Middle of the week Chrissie and her sister flew abroad to make holiday and my job was it thenceforth to look after the cat 'Mao'. Unfortunately I don´t have a picture of Mao ... she wanted to stay incognito ^^ Beside feeding the cat, I've also done some money raising jobs ... a bit of real men work :)

....

Well, and then I got spontaneously a harvesting job. On November, 9 I undertook the approximately 3 hour drive to Corrigin for a familiarisation as grid operator.

....

When I arrived in Corrigin some undesirable issues appeared. My phone hadn't reception anymore, and... the clutch in my car was gone. I squatted together with my house mate Gert from Estonia in a little hut in the middle of nowhere ...

... without internet and transport. First I reckoned it´s the end of the world, but than i realized THE chance to take distance of useless, time wasting technic and do the really neccessary things of life: see the australian, endless landscape, read a english book ('Don't tell mum I work on the rigs, she thinks I'm a piano player in a Whorehouse', really recommendable) and meet farmer.

About my work: The grain of all the farmer in WA will be storaged in different kinds of bins and silos.

To unload the grain from trucks, they tip their trailer above big grids ...

....

... and it will be moved with elevator and conveyor to the correct stack. My function was to lead and control the unload process.

....

Beside some work (on the left picture Gert, on the right me)...

....

... that job was not really exhausting :)

....

....

... after work taking a shower with view on the sunset and yummy tea.

....

Beside this backbreaking job I nevertheless found some left energy to go jogging. That was a good occasion to get close with the nature.

....

On a free weekend my mate Gert and me went to Wave Rock in Hyden.

The Wave Rock is a granit rock, whose surface is shaped by the rain and makes the rock looking like a big wave. Anyway, there was a breathtaking view over the flat, deserted landscape.

....

..

Last but not least the farmer. My first farmer Murray I met on my very first weekend while hitchhiking to Corrigin, to get better receiption for sending an E-Mail ^^ Murray and his family are great (the three in the middle) ...

... after being in Corrigin, they showed me their farm and borrowed me a lot of things which made the life in our little hut much more comfortable.

On Murrays farm after the rain:

On a work free day I 'helped' a bit on their farm and made some experiences:

Driving infront of a tractor with a warning sign ...

....

... fighting a bush fire ...

... and see and try out some things ...

..

..

On another work free day I went to Stevens farm. It's always funny to see, where farmer live. As far as you can see is only bush land and then suddenly palms and green grass :)

Steven has, as I can remember, more than 4000 sheep. How many hectar big his farm is, I can't remember. Anyway, that are dimensions I can't deal with. A bit more up north there are farms with the size of Germany.

....

... well, I just played a bit with his children :)
